From downtown, it's about a 10 to 15 minute walk. What you can and should do is park downtown (Stamford) in a garage or on the street and then walk or take a taxi to the station. Demand for weekday station parking here is tremendous. Ditto for every other station in Southern Fairfield County. That's permit parking with a mile-long waiting list. in Stamford at the station's Pro-Park Garage on a weekday. That's because we get all the "local" trains that begin and end here, hitting all the Westchester Cnty NY stops, *and* we get the "express" trains that make only CT stops and go directly to Grand Central after stopping in Stamford. Stamford *is* the best city on the Metro North line to carry out your plan in terms of train schedule flexibility.
